Set Focus To

Kuika's Set Focus To action is a user experience-focused action that allows you to focus on a specific component. It is particularly useful in forms, where it facilitates automatic transition to fields where data is requested from the user. This speeds up the process and reduces the error rate.

Technical Features

  • Focus Function (UI Control Panel): The Set Focus To action focuses on a specific input element (e.g. Text Input or Select Box) in the user interface. It can be triggered when the page is loaded or when the user performs an action.
  • Easy Data Entry: The user can directly type or select the focused area. This is frequently used in multi-step forms or screens with automatic transitions.
  • Web & Mobile Support: The action works seamlessly in all web and mobile applications developed with Kuika.

Set Focus To Action Application Steps

1. Define the Action in UI Design

  • Open your project on the Kuika platform.
  • Go to the UI Design module and select the screen where the element to be focused is located.
  • Create an input field (e.g., First Name, Last Name, Email, Search). Example: Ensure that the cursor goes directly to the ‘Email’ field when the page loads.
  • From the + ADD ACTION menu, select the trigger event (Initial Actions, OnClick, etc.) that suits your needs and add the UI Control > Set Focus To action.

2. Configure Action Parameters

  • Select Component: Select the element you want to focus on. Example: Email
This action can be triggered when the screen loads, when a button is clicked, or after another action.

Use Case: Automatic Focus on Page Load

When a user arrives at a registration form, the cursor should go directly to the ‘First Name Last Name’ field.

Application Steps:

  1. Go to the UI Design module.
  2. Add a Text Input component and name it ‘FullNameInput’.
  3. Click on an empty area on the screen and select the +ADD ACTION menu:
    • Initial Actions → UI Control → Set Focus To action.
  4. Action Parameter:
    • Select Component: FullNameInput

This allows users to quickly enter their first and last names by typing directly into the First Name and Last Name fields when they arrive at the form screen.

Set Focus To Action Advanced Customisations

  • Conditional Focus: Focus can be set on different components according to different conditions. Example: If the user has registered before, focus on the ‘Email’ field, otherwise focus on the ‘First Name Last Name’ field. The Add Condition feature can be used next to the action for this control.
  • Integration with Chain Actions: The Set Focus To action can be used in conjunction with actions such as Set Value, Navigate, Show Message, Change Enabled Of, etc. Example: When the user clicks the button, a process is performed and the focus is shifted to another area.

Technical Risks

  • Element Must Be Defined: The element to be focused must be defined and visible on the screen.
  • Keyboard Opening on Mobile: If the focused element is a text input, the keyboard may open on mobile devices, which should be taken into account in the design.
  • Timing: If the component is an element that will load late (e.g., under a tab), timed focusing or trigger conditions may be required.

The Set Focus To action is a practical tool used in the Kuika platform to make user interactions more fluid. It speeds up form filling processes, reduces focus confusion, and significantly improves the user experience.
