Open PDF

The Open PDF action allows users to view PDF files stored on their devices or accessible via the internet. PDF content can be opened directly from within the application using a button or event trigger.

Technical Features

  • PDF Viewing: The specified PDF URL is opened with the device's default viewer.
  • Opening Structure: The PDF can be opened in the current page or in a new tab.
  • Dynamic Data Usage: The PDF URL can be defined as fixed or dynamic.
  • Web and Mobile Application Support: Can be used in web and mobile applications.

Open PDF Action Application Steps

1. Define the Action in UI Design

  • Open your project on the Kuika platform.
  • Go to the UI Design module and select the screen where you want to add the PDF link.
  • Create a button such as ‘Show PDF’.
  • Select the button and add the Device > Open PDF action from the + ADD ACTION menu according to the trigger event you want (Initial Actions, OnClick, OnBlur, etc.).

2. Configure Action Parameters

  • PDF URL: The link address of the PDF file to be opened (e.g., https://academy.kuika.com/en)
  • Open As:
    • Current Page: The PDF opens in the current page.
    • New Tab: The PDF opens in a new tab.

These fields can be entered as fixed values or defined dynamically using the Symbol Picker.

Usage Scenario: User Viewing Manual in PDF Format

In a mobile application, the user may want to access a PDF document by clicking the ‘User Guide’ button.

Action Addition Steps

Enter ‘Open Guide’ in the Label field.

  1. Select the button and add the OnClick → Device → Open PDF action from the + ADD ACTION menu.

Configuring Parameters

When the user clicks this button, the PDF file opens in the format supported by the device and the content is displayed.

Open PDF Action Advanced Customizations

  • Dynamic PDF Redirection: Different PDFs can be displayed based on different user groups or scenarios.
  • Application-Based Opening Preference: New Tab for web and Current Page for mobile can be preferred.
  • Integration with Data Source: The PDF URL can be obtained from data sources such as Action Result, Method Input, Screen Input.

Technical Risks

  • Invalid URL: The PDF will not open if the file path is incorrect.
  • Network Access Requirement: An internet connection is required if the file comes from a remote URL.
  • Device Compatibility: It must be checked whether the PDF file is supported on the device.
  • Performance Issue: Large PDF files may load slowly, affecting the user experience.

The Open PDF action provides an effective and flexible method for users to access information within the application. It is ideal for displaying content such as documents, contracts, and guides. Thanks to its web and mobile compatibility, it can be used seamlessly across all applications.
