Kuika’s GPS Tracker feature allows you to track users’ locations in real time via mobile apps. The GPS Tracker provides live location tracking by recording geographic location data at set intervals.
The GPS Tracker feature works only on mobile apps and is compatible with iOS and Android devices.
GPS Tracker Features
Location Tracking: Continuously determines and records the device’s geographic location.
Data Logging: Location data collected at specified intervals is stored in the KGpstracking table in the Managed DB.
GPS Tracker Settings
1. Open or Create a Configuration
Log in to the Kuika platform.
From the Apps screen, open the mobile app project you’ll be working on.
Click the Config Manager module in the top menu.
To create a new configuration, click the Create a blank configuration card, give the configuration a name, and complete the creation process. If you want to use an existing configuration, click its name in the list.
2. Go to the GPS Tracker Settings
Click the iOS or Android tab at the top of the configuration screen.
Since the GPS Tracker works only in mobile apps, enable the Support iOS UI and/or Support Android UI options in the Platform section of the right panel.
In the left menu, click the GPS Tracker option under the DEVICE heading. You can also quickly access this setting by typing “gps” into the Search settings field at the top of the menu.
3. Configure GPS Tracker Settings
Click the Add New link under the Settings section.
In the GPS Tracking window that opens, fill in the following fields:
Name (required): A descriptive name for the GPS Tracker configuration.
Min. distance between updates (required): The minimum distance (in meters) the device must travel for the location to update.
Location Accuracy (required): Determines the location accuracy.
Approximate: Determines the user’s location with approximate accuracy.
Precise: Retrieves the user’s exact location.
Background Location: Enable this option to track location even while the app is running in the background.
After configuring all settings, click the Create button.
4. Define User Permissions
Location Tracking Permission
Click the Add New link below the Permission text field.
In the GPS Tracking Permission Text window that opens, fill out the following fields:
Name (required): A descriptive name for the permission text configuration.
English: The text displayed to the user when requesting location tracking permission. In this text, explain the purpose for which location information will be used.
Click the Create button to create the permission text.
Background Location Tracking Permission
Click the Add New link below the Background Perm. text field.
In the GPS Tracking Background Permission Text window that opens, fill in the following fields:
Name (required): A descriptive name for the permission text configuration.
English: The text displayed to the user when requesting background location tracking permission.
Click the Create button to create the permission text.
5. Select and Save Configurations
Select the configurations you created from the Settings, Permission text, and Background Perm. text dropdown menus.
Click the Save button in the upper-right corner to save your changes. (In an existing configuration, this button appears as Update.)
After completing these steps, you can actively use the GPS Tracker feature in your app to track and record user locations.
