Read NFC

Kuika's Read NFC action enables you to perform wireless data reading between mobile devices using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. With this action, data such as unique identification numbers (IDs) can be quickly and securely read from NFC-enabled tags or cards. Read NFC is an ideal solution for inventory tracking, access control, and quick data entry.

Technical Specifications

  • Mobile Application Support: Works with mobile applications on Android and iOS operating systems.
  • Data Type: Reads the unique identification number (UID) of NFC tags or cards.
  • Usage Area: Scanning physical tags and data integration in mobile applications.
  • Interaction: Works with user-triggered actions (e.g. button clicks).

Create Mobile Application

  1. Log in to the Kuika platform.
  2. Click on the New App button to create a new mobile application via the Apps screen.
  3. Enter a name for the app.
  4. Select Mobile compatible app and then click the CREATE button in the bottom right corner.

Read NFC Action Application Steps

Use Case: Product Inventory Tracking with NFC

In a warehouse management app, employees can quickly transfer product information to the system by reading NFC tags on products on shelves. This makes product tracking easier and prevents manual data entry errors.

Adding an NFC Reading Action

Enter the

  1. UI Design module and drag a Button element from the left panel and drop it on the screen.
  2. Enter ‘Scan NFC’ in the Label property of the button.
  3. Select the button and add the Initial Actions → Device → Read NFC action from the + ADD ACTION menu.

Data Processing After NFC Reading

  • The Read NFC action opens the device's NFC reader when the button is clicked and reads the unique ID of the tag.
  • The read ID can be used to search for product information in the application's database.
  • If product information is found, the relevant details (name, stock status, etc.) can be dynamically displayed on the screen.

Read NFC Action Advanced Customisations

  • Data Processing: The read NFC ID can be saved to the application's database or different actions can be triggered.
  • Conditional Reading: NFC reading can be controlled based on user permissions or application status.
  • Multiple Reading Scenarios: Multiple NFC tags can be read for different purposes within the same application.
  • Error Management: Error handling mechanisms can be added to display appropriate messages to the user when reading fails.

Technical Risks

  • Hardware Requirements: Actions will not work on devices without NFC reader hardware.
  • Read Data Limitations: Only the UID of NFC tags can be read; access to advanced data blocks requires separate operations.
  • User Permissions: The device must grant the necessary permissions for NFC reading.

The Read NFC action is a user-friendly and practical component in Kuika mobile applications that enables fast data acquisition from the physical world. It can be used effectively with proper configuration and testing.
