Update User Starting Screen

The Update User Starting Screen action is used to update the first screen a user is directed to after logging into the application. This action allows you to create user-based customised experiences. The start screen can be flexibly changed according to role changes, user preferences or business processes.

Technical Features

  • Start Screen Definition: Specifies the first screen that will open when the user logs into the system.
  • User-Specific Settings: A different start screen can be assigned to each user.
  • Dynamic Screen Update: Screen redirection can be changed after login or after a transaction.
  • Web and Mobile Compatibility: The action works in both applications.
  • Compatible with User Roles: Screens can be assigned based on roles.

Update User Starting Screen Action Application Steps

1. Adding the Update User Starting Screen Action

  • Log in to the Kuika platform.
  • Open the project you want to work on from the Apps screen.
  • Go to the UI Design module.
  • Create a button on the relevant screen (e.g. ‘Set as Home Page’).
  • Select the button and add the Authorisation > Update User Starting Screen action from the + ADD ACTION menu according to the desired trigger event (Initial Actions, OnClick, OnBlur, etc.).

2. Configuring Action Parameters

  • User Name (Required): The email address of the user whose start screen will be updated. Example: user@kuika.com or currentUser.email. It is usually defined using data sources such as Action Result, Current, Form Component, Screen Input or Fixed, and can be linked via the Symbol Picker tool.
  • Starting Screen ID (Required):The ID number of the screen to which the user will be directed upon login. Example: ‘homeScreen’, ‘adminDashboard’. It is usually defined using data sources such as Action Result, Current, Form Component, Screen Input or Fixed, and can be linked via the Symbol Picker.

Use Case: Assigning a Custom Home Page to Users

When a user gains a specific role in the application (e.g., when promoted to administrator), they should be directed to the ‘Administrator Panel’ screen by default when logging into the application.

Scenario Steps

  • Element: Update Home button
  • Trigger: OnClick
  • Action: Authorisation → Update User Starting Screen
  • Parameters:
    • User Name
    • Starting Screen

With this configuration, the user will be directed to the ‘adminDashboard’ screen directly upon their next login.

Update User Starting Screen Action Advanced Customisations

  • Role-Based Dynamic Assignment: You can determine the start screen based on the user's role.
  • Update After Registration or Role Assignment: When a new role is assigned to a user or immediately after registration, this action is triggered and the start screen can be assigned.
  • Use After Login: Triggered after the Sign In action, the appropriate screen settings can be made for the user.

Technical Risks and Controls

  • Invalid Screen ID: If the Starting Screen ID value displays a screen that is not defined in the system, the redirection may fail. It should be verified in advance.
  • Incorrect User Name: If the User Name parameter is entered incorrectly, the action will not be effective on any user.
  • Unauthorised Action: Make sure that the user who will execute the action is authorised to do so.

Update User Starting Screen is a powerful action for personalising the user experience and making role-based redirections dynamic. It allows you to determine the screen that users will see when they first log in to the application and customise system behaviour according to user profiles. It creates a secure and user-friendly start experience.
